Man charged after wooden bat assault in Co Derry

A man has been charged with a number of offences following an aggravated burglary in Draperstown in which a person suffered “multiple cracked teeth”

The 34-year-old man has been charged with aggravated burglary and stealing and aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

He is expected to appear before Magherafelt Magistrates Court sitting in Derry on Wednesday September 11.

Police say the incident took place in the Glenelly Villas area on Sunday September 8 in which a male occupant of a property was assaulted by two men.

The man suffered multiple cracked teeth and a cut to the left side of his lip, after it was reported that one of the suspects had been armed with a wooden bat.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and we would appeal to anyone with any information, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1916 08/09/24,” a PSNI spokesperson said earlier on Tuesday.
