Man charged with his mother’s murder after body found in Co Roscommon bog

A 31-year-old man has appeared in court in Co Westmeath charged with the murder of his mother.

Nebojsa Pap appeared before a special sitting of Mullingar District Court on Friday.

The court heard he made no reply when charged with the murder of his mother Mirjana Pap.

The body of the 58-year-old was discovered in a bog close to Clonark in Co Roscommon on Monday.

Gardaí believe she was killed at her home in Athlone on December 28.

Ms Pap, a Croatian national, had been living in Athlone for more than 20 years.

A solicitor for Mr Pap, of Beechville in Athlone, made an application for legal aid, which was granted.

Judge Patricia Cronin remanded the accused into custody, with an order that he get medical and psychiatric attention.

He is due to appear before Athlone District Court next Wednesday via video link.
