A man has been charged with the murder of an 81-year-old woman in Dundalk.
Nicholas Muckian (47) of Glenwood in the Co Louth town is charged with murdering Pat Muckian on May 3.
Muckian had originally been charged with assaulting three women causing them harm, at the same location, and with unlawfully intimidating another person with a hatchet.
At Dundalk District Court on Wednesday afternoon, a garda gave evidence that she further charged the accused earlier that morning, telling the court that Muckian replied after caution “I don’t understand”.
The state solicitor for Co Louth said the assault charge relating to Pat Muckian could be withdrawn.
The accused was remanded into custody for one week, when he will reappear before the court.
