A Derry man has been charged with doing a provocative act by trying to erect a Palestinian flag at a parade route on July 12.

Barry Stephen Maxwell (33) of Rathkeele Way in the city, appeared at Derry Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He was charged with attempting on several occasions to place a Palestinian flag on an archway overhanging a parade route and that such behaviour was likely to lead to a breach of the peace.

A prosecutor told the court that there had been no decision taken on the case as yet and asked for a four-week adjournment.

The case was adjourned until September 4.
