Man dies in diving tragedy off Donegal coast

A man has died in hospital after getting into difficulties while diving off the Donegal coast.

Malin Head Coast Guard confirmed the man, who was aged in his 50s, got into difficulties while diving 19 miles of Tory Island on Monday. The victim’s name has not been revealed.

Rescue services were called to the scene around 1pm and the man was recovered from the water and airlifted to Letterkenny University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.



A Garda spokesman said a file would be prepared for the coroner.

The man’s death is the second diving tragedy in Donegal in the last five weeks.

In June, County Leitrim diver, Paul Doran (49) died while scuba diving at Teelin Bay in south west Donegal. Mr Doran, from Carrick-on-Shannon died at University Hospital Galway after he was airlifted from the area.
