Man hospitalised after attack by burglars armed with spade

A householder has been treated in hospital after being attacked with a spade during a burglary in Lisburn.

Three men have been arrested by police investigating the incident, which happened in the Beechland Drive area shortly before 6.30am on Tuesday morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said the occupant of the house was assaulted by three men, one of whom was armed with a spade.

”It was reported that the men also punched and kicked the householder, who sustained injuries to his head, his upper body, and his abdomen as a result of the incident,” the spokesperson said.

The man was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Three men, one aged in his 30s, and two aged in their 40s, were later arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, and a number of drugs offences.



They remained in police custody on Tuesday evening.

”Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have any information which might assist, to get in touch,” the PSNI spokesperson added.
