Man in court charged in connection with racist messages received by Derry mayor

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged in connection with racist messages received by the Mayor of Derry and Strabane shortly after she was appointed to the post.

Kevin Barry McIntyre (31) of Miller Street in Derry appeared charged with two counts of abusing public telecommunications network to send messages that were menacing.

The offences were alleged to have taken place on May 2 and May 4.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and the court was told that a decision had been taken in the case to proceed in the charge sheet.

The case was adjourned until October 2.
