A 20-year-old man has been left with ‘serious’ hand injuries after being involved in a fight with another man, who was armed with a machete, in east Belfast.
Police say the incident happened after 10pm on Thursday in the Devon Drive area.
Armed response officers and local police were sent to the scene and a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including attempted grievous bodily harm.
“Just before 10.10pm, we received a report that two men, one of whom was armed with a machete, were fighting in the street in the Devon Drive area,” a spokesperson said.
“An Armed Response Unit was dispatched to the scene alongside local policing officers. On arrival, a man aged in his 20s was found with serious injuries to his hands.
“A search of the property was carried out and a number of items were seized for examination.
“The occupant of the property, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, possessing ammunition in suspicious circumstances and a number of drug possession charges.
“He remains in police custody at this time.”
