Strong winds are set to hit parts of the north again this weekend as the Met Office issues its second weather warning this week.

A yellow wind warning has been issued from 7am until 9am on Saturday for parts of counties Derry, Antrim and Down.

This includes both Belfast and Derry City, with gusts of up to 60mph possible.

“Strong westerly winds are expected to develop through the course of Saturday,” the Met Office said.

“This has the potential to cause delays to public transport and some disruption to the road network, which may have a greater than usual impact given the busier pre-Christmas weekend travel.

“Dangerous coastal conditions can be expected too, with large waves an additional hazard.

The weather forecaster has advised that individuals check ahead for any potential delays to their journeys.

They say there is also a “small chance of isolated, short-term loss of power”.

The latest warning comes after a yellow alert for wind was put in place across counties Antrim and Down on Wednesday.

In the Republic, Met Éireann has not yet issued any alerts but has forecasted “fresh to strong and gust westerly winds” in the north-west.
