Motorcyclist dies after Co Down road crash

The collision happened in Downpatrick on Sunday

A man in his fifties has died in a road crash in Co Down.

Police said he was the rider of a motorcycle which collided with a car on the Killyleagh Road in Downpatrick.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The man was the rider of a motorcycle which collided with a car at around 4pm on Sunday July 28.

“We are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.



“We are particularly keen to hear from two other motorcyclists travelling along the same road around the time of the collision.”

SDLP MLA Colin McGrath offered his condolences to the family and friends of the man killed.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the man killed in yesterday’s crash,” he said.

“It is always difficult to lose a loved one, particularly in such sudden circumstances. My heart goes out to them at this difficult time.

“I would urge any witnesses to the crash to come forward and help police with their enquiries.”

Alliance councillor David Lee-Surginor said he was “deeply saddened”.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the individual’s family during this difficult time,” he said.

“Losing a loved one is never easy, and the pain is immeasurable. We extend our heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with the bereaved.

“I urge everyone to exercise caution on our roads. Let us remember the importance of road safety and look out for one another. Together, we can strive for safer streets and prevent such heartbreaking incidents.”
