Police were called following a report a suspicious device was left in a field near a caravan park in north Down.

Offices attended the scene on the Donaghadee Road in Millisle after receiving the report late afternoon on Friday. A bomb disposal unit was deployed.

“Traffic has not been affected, however, access to the nearby caravan site has been restricted to ensure the safety of everyone in the area,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

In a social media post, the PSNI in North Down and Ards said: “We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident in the Millisle area. Seaview Caravan Park is closed for anyone trying to access it or leave it.

“We thank you for your patience and we will update you when the caravan park reopens.”

Seaview Caravan Park added: “Hi folks, the police have advised me that the site will be closed for a few hours.

“Unfortunately no one is getting in or out.

“I don’t know myself what the reason is. Just be patient and hopefully we will be open soon. I will keep you informed when site is opened.”
