North Belfast house fire ‘deliberate’ after window smashed

A fire at a house in north Belfast is being treated as arson.

The blaze was reported at a property in Summer Street shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday.

Firefighters found the front window of the property had been broken and the living room set on fire.

They used breathing apparatus to enter the house and extinguish the fire, before handing the scene over to police shortly after 10pm.



A PSNI spokesperson said: “Extensive damage was caused to the room following the incident, as well as the front windows of the property. At this stage, it is not believed that anyone was inside the property.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident but at this stage, the fire is being treated as deliberate ignition.”

They added: “Police are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to the incident, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1585 01/02/25.”
