A young girl believed seriously injured when she was knocked down on a road on the Ards Peninsula received crucial emergency aid from passers by before ambulance crews arrived.
Police are appealing for information following the road traffic collision on the Ballyblack Road between Carrowdore and Newtownards on Thursday afternoon.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received the 999 call at 3.25pm reporting the collision.
Two ambulance crews and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene along with an air ambulance. Following initial assessment, the girl was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
The PSNI said it is appealing for information following the “serious road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Newtownards”.
“Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and a young female was taken to hospital for treatment for her injuries,” a spokesperson said.
The police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have footage to make contact. Ballyblack Road was closed in both directions for a number of hours on Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses arriving on the scene straight after the collision said they saw the young girl receiving CPR from individuals who appeared to have first aid experience.
