Police remain at the scene of a sudden death of an infant in Coleraine.

Officers arrived in the Harpur’s Hill area of the town on Tuesday.

It is understood the death occurred at a property at Blackthorn Court.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are currently at the scene of a sudden death of an infant in the Coleraine area. There are no further details.”

East Derry MLA Claire Sugden said in a Facebook post: “My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family.

“I would not want to imagine what they are going through.”

Coleraine PUP councillor Russell Watton told the Irish News: “This is absolutely heartbreaking news for the family, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them today.”
