Police are continuing to question a 58-year-old man arrested after armed and masked men entered a GAA social club and three other bars in a Co Derry village and made threats against drug dealers.
It later emerged that an underage presentation was taking place at a social club run by St Canice’s GAA club in Dungiven when three armed and masked men entered the premises on Friday evening.
Around 100 children and teenagers from the club’s under 11.5 - 17.5 teams, and their parents, were attending a presentation event in an upstairs function room when the group entered a downstairs bar.
It is believed that one of the masked men was carrying a handgun, while the others carried an iron bar and sledgehammer.
While the PSNI initially said it had received reports that two premises had been visited, it later emerged the men entered four different bars around the village within minutes.
The group of men claimed they were from the ‘IRA’ and issued a warning against drug dealing in each bar.
There is no suggestion that anyone associated with any of the pubs were the targets of the warnings.
The PSNI said on Monday it is investigating reports that armed and masked men entered the four bars sometime between 7.15pm and 7.20pm.
A spokeswoman added that a 58-year-old man arrested on Sunday in the Dungiven area under the Terrorism Act remains in custody.
