Police have launched an investigation following an arson attack on a house in Newry early on Monday.

A wheelie bin was pushed up against he front door of the house in Mourne View Park and set alight, the PSNI said.

No-one was inside the property at the time of the attack, which happened shortly before 2am. A fire crew attended the scene.

Severe damage was caused to the front door while there was smoke damage to the inside of the house.

“We are treating this as arson with intent to endanger life,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

“Our officers remain at the scene this morning (Monday), conducting enquiries We are appealing to anyone with any information, including any dash cam or mobile phone footage, or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity, to get in touch.”
