Police search for firearm in Dungannon after report of man pointing gun at taxi

A man (46) has been released following an arrest in connection with early morning incident

Police in Dungannon are searching for a firearm after a reported incident in the town on Monday morning.

Police in Dungannon are searching for a firearm after a taxi driver reported that a male pointed a handgun at his vehicle.

The incident was reported to have happened in the Market Square area of the town shortly before 5.30am on Monday.

The man with the gun was reportedly in a vehicle that drove off, and police arrested a 46-year-old man in the Northland Row area a short time later, however a weapon was not recovered.

The man was later released following questioning.

A PSNI spokesperson said police were carrying out searches in Dungannon on Monday “in order to establish if a weapon has been dumped in the vicinity”.

They added: “If anyone should locate what they believe to be a firearm, please do not touch it and contact police immediately.

“Anyone with any information that could assist police is asked to call 101, quoting reference 150 27/01/25.”
