Police attended the scene alongside members of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who put the fire out.

There were also reports of a car and two properties being severely damaged in an arson attack in the Church Road area of Larne at the same time.

The PSNI said the Churchill Road incident was being treated as arson with intent to endanger life and they appealed for witnesses.

Alliance East Antrim MLA Danny Donnelly said: “This incident demonstrates a callous and reckless disregard for the safety of residents in the area, and is extremely concerning.

“There is absolutely no justification for this kind of violence in our community, and I’d urge anyone with any information that may help the police in their investigations to please get in touch with them, or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
