Police treat Newtownabbey incident which saw car occupants threatened with suspected firearm as hate crime

Police say they are treating an incident in which the occupants of a car in Co Antrim were threatened with a suspected gun as a hate crime.

The incident involving two vehicles happened early on Monday afternoon in the Newtownabbey area.

According to police, at around 1.30pm, a black BMW jeep was forced from the road by a dark coloured Range Rover at O’Neill Road.



The occupants of the BMW were then threatened with a suspected firearm.

The BMW left the scene only to be forced off the road again, some 15 minutes later at Carnmoney Road, where the occupants of both vehicles where involved in an altercation.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A PSNI spokesperson said the incidents were being treated as hate crimes, and they appealed for anyone who witnessed either incident or who captured dash-cam footage to come forward.
