Property damaged after car set alight in Newry

Police are appealing for information following overnight arson attack

Damage caused after arson at the Chancellors Hall area of Newry in the early hours of Tuesday 10th September.
 Detective Sergeant Lewis said: “At around 00:55am, it was reported that a black coloured Volkswagen Tiguan which was parked in the area was set alight. The vehicle was substantially damaged, with light fixtures and the frame of a front window of a nearby property also damaged during the incident. Colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, who were in attendance, dealt with the fire.

Damage has been caused to a property after an arson attack on a car in Newry.

The incident began shortly before 1am on Tuesday morning, when a black coloured Volkswagen Tiguan was set alight in the Chancellor’s Hall area of the town.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze, which left the vehicle “substantially damaged”, while damage was caused to light fixtures and a front window of a nearby property.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident, is asked to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 51 10/09/24,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
