Police are currently at the scene of two security alerts in Co Down and Co Derry this afternoon.

A number of homes have been evacuated in Banbridge.

It follows a report that a device had been left outside a property in the Oak Lodge area earlier.

Cordons are in place and the public are advised to avoid the area.

Meanwhile Road users are urged to avoid the Skeoge Link Road area of Derry due to an ongoing security alert.

Local Sinn Fein Councillor Sandra Duff warned there will be “significant disruption” as a result.

“There is an ongoing security alert on the Skeoge Road Link after a suspicious object was found earlier today.

“The road is now closed and there will be significant disruption for drivers on this busy road.

“I would urge people to follow the advice of Police and to avoid this area at this time and use alternative routes.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area at present and there are a number of cordons currently in place.

“A further update will be provided in due course.”
