Police have launched an investigation after a man suffered slash wounds to his head, face and chest after an assault in south Belfast.

The attack took place during an aggravated burglary in the Essex Grove area of south Belfast before 8pm on Monday.

A spokesman for the PSNI said that reports were received that four masked men entered a house and assaulted a man with weapons as he was in bed.

The victim was then dragged downstairs as the assault continued, while the men left the scene via the rear of the property.



The man was later taken to hospital by the Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for the PSNI said: “At present, it is not believed that these injuries are life-threatening”.
