The PSNI has launched an internal investigation after video emerged of police seemingly taking part in celebrations after Armagh’s All-Ireland win on Sunday.

The video, reportedly filmed outside Camlough, shows officers taking part in celebrations of Armagh’s All-Ireland final victory over Galway on Sunday. In the video, a police vehicle with sirens and flashing blue lights is seen driving around a roundabout and driving up and down the road. An Armagh flag is waved out of the window.

In a statement the police they were aware of a “number of videos circulating social media”.

District Commander for Newry, Mourne and Down, Superintendent Norman Haslett added: “We are aware of footage circulating on social media of our officers, driving Police Service of Northern Ireland vehicles, taking part in celebrations following Armagh winning the All-Ireland final.

“We have commenced an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding this.”

In a statement TUV leader Jim Allister said the scenes were “disgraceful” and he would be contacting the Police Ombudsman and Chief Constable to lodge a complaint.

“They can be seen driving through the village waving GAA flags in a fashion which could be best described as joyriding while using the siren improperly,” Mr Allister said about the video.

He added that the video was evidence of “two tier policing” and added: “Independent policing has gone out of the window and the PSNI has destroyed any pretence of being a balanced force.

“Urgent action is required against the offices involved if there is to be any hope of confidence not plunging to an all-time low.”
