A python has been rescued by police following a house fire in Belfast.

The large snake is set to be placed in the care of an animal shelter after it was located in a property following the fire in the north of the city on Friday.

In a post to the Police North Belfast Facebook page, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Meet Jenner, a reticulated python that was unfortunately trapped in a room during a house fire earlier today.

“With assistance from our colleagues in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service who put out the fire, officers from our Local Policing Team made sure no other occupants were trapped but they located poor Jenner in a severely smoke damaged room.”
