Public thanked as searches for Donal Armstrong continue for second week in Derry

The public has been thanked for offering support as the search for a 23-year-old man in Derry enters its second week.

Donal Armstrong entered the River Foyle on Saturday, September 28, prompting recovery searches along the waterway.

He is described as being of thin build, with short fair hair with a reddish tinge, and when last seen was wearing a navy jacket with white crest, a navy hoody with an orange t-shirt underneath, black trousers and blue trainers with brown soles.

The Foyle Search and Rescue group has been leading the searches for Donal since the alert was raised, and on Monday they announced the operation would get underway for a second week.

A spokesperson said in a social media post that searches over the weekend involved the Search and Rescue Dog Association and colleagues from the Community Rescue Service.

“Also to all those that have been walking the Bay Road/Quay area, thank you for being vigilant and keeping your eyes on the water while adhering to the safety guidelines, your support isn’t going unnoticed,” they said.



“Also, thank you to all those that have dropped in refreshments and donations for our search teams.”

The group has urged those involved with the searches to adhere to strict safety guidelines, including to always stay in groups of at least two people, and to let someone know the area being searched an to notify them when the search of the area is completed.

Those taking part are also urged to wear weather appropriate clothing and to not enter water.
