A school care worker stabbed outside a school in Dublin as she attempted to protect the children has been discharged from hospital.

Leanne Flynn spent almost a month in hospital following the November stabbing outside a Gaelscoil in Parnell Square East.

Children were attacked by a man wielding a knife, leading to three being injured. Two, a boy and a girl, were discharged from hospital later in November while a five-year-old female remains in hospital, though she left intensive care just before Christmas and is out of danger.

A night of rioting in Dublin followed the stabbings on November 23.

Ms Flynn, who spent a week in intensive care, used her body as a shield to protect the children and attempted to disarm the attacker. She suffered multiple stab wounds and was in an induced coma in the Mater Hospital for a time. The Dublin woman was discharged form hospital shortly before Christmas, the Irish Times reported.

A fundraiser for the little girl still in hospital has raised more than €70,000.

In the latest update earlier this month, the family said “our darling girl has now entered the 3rd phase of her recovery”.

“This will be the longest as she will relearn everything as a result of her injury. She has done really well thus far and the medical team is very happy with her improvement,” the family said.

“Once again, she is so strong and we are proud to be by her side supporting her, guiding her, and, above all, loving her every step of the way.”
