SDLP MP Claire Hanna has appealed for funds to support her general election campaign.
The South Belfast representative, who is defending a majority of more than 15,000 in the newly configured South Belfast and Mid Down seat, has set up a GoFundMe page with a target of £5,000.
Since the appeal was launched at the end of last week, more than £1400 has been donated.
”Elections are powered by people but they also cost a lot of money,” Ms Hanna posted on X.
Elections are powered by people but they also cost a lot of money. My campaign is largely self-funded, but we would be delighted & grateful to anyone who wants to chip in to help us run the best possible campaign in South Belfast & Mid Down https://t.co/XpiSKA5ClA

“My campaign is largely self-funded, but we would be delighted and grateful to anyone who wants to chip in to help us run the best possible campaign in South Belfast and Mid Down.”
An SDLP spokesperson said people had asked how they could support the campaign.
They said a GoFundMepage was “the most broad based and transparent way of funding campaigns”.
Claire is happy to account for exactly how her campaign is funded and invites other candidates to do the same,” the spokesperson said.
