A take-away restaurant in south Belfast was fined £2,500 for food hygiene offences after council officers discovered an active mouse infestation last year.

Belfast City Council took the case against the Kanto Asian Fusion take-away on the Stranmillis Road after a complaint of waste building up outside the premises on March 23, 2023.

Agreeing to close voluntarily, the business re-opened on March 27 last year with officers satisfied that sufficient measures had been taken to remove the imminent risk to public health.

A food hygiene rating of 1 was issued as a result of the re-opening inspection, taking into account the reasons for the voluntary closure.

Following a further inspection where hygiene standards were found to be satisfactory, a food hygiene rating of 4 was issued.
