Belfast City Council (BCC) has made arrangements for any bins or Bryson Recycling boxes which were not emptied on Friday due to Storm Éowyn.

A red weather warning is in place until 2pm with gusts of up to 100mph expected along some exposed coasts, with an amber weather alert for wind in place until 9pm on Friday.

“Bins should be left out by 7am on Saturday. If they are not emptied tomorrow, residents should bring them back in, and then leave out again by 7am on Sunday,” they explained.

“Bryson Recycling boxes will be done on their next scheduled collection date.”

All council parks, playgrounds and pitches are also closed on Friday, along with all community and leisure centres and council buildings, including City Hall, Belfast Zoo and St George’s Market.

Schools and colleges have also been forced to close and public transport has come to a halt. Flights have also been cancelled with motorists warned of significant disruption due to fallen trees and debris across several roads.
