A 14-year-old boy on a quad bike has sustained “life-threatening injuries” following what police have described as “a serious one vehicle road traffic collision”.
The incident took place at the Ballygudden Road area of Eglinton, on the outskirts of Derry, on Tuesday, June 25.
PSNI Sergeant Irwin said: “Shortly before 11:30am, it was reported that a quad bike was involved in the incident.
“It was reported that a 14 year old boy, who was riding the quad bike was taken to hospital for injuries described as life threatening following the incident. The road, which was closed, reopened following the collision.
“Enquiries are continuing, and police would appeal to anyone with any information, or who may have dashcam footage available, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 675 25/06/24.”
Emergency services, including the charity NI Air Ambulance, were tasked road was also closed to motorists for a time.
In a statement, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 11:25 on Tuesday, 25th June following reports of an RTC in the Ballygudden Road Area, Eglinton.
“NIAS dispatched one Emergency crew, two Rapid Response Paramedics and an Ambulance Officer to the incident. The Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board was also tasked to attend.
“Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, one patient was taken toRoyal Victoria Hospital by Air Ambulance.”
Derry City and Strabane District SDLP councillor Declan Norris, who is from the area, said his thoughts were with those involved in the crash, as further news was awaited.
