Translink will “liaise closely with the PSNI” in the event of possible disruption on arterial routes during planned protests.

Social media posts have indicated protests will be held at Belfast City Hall and in Derry’s Waterside, during Friday afternoon’s peak commuter time.

There have been calls for calm after it emerged that an anti-racism protest will take place in Belfast city centre on Friday at the same time as a far-right demonstration.

The timing and location of the protests has the potential to cause a security headache for the PSNI, which has already faced criticism over its handling of last weekend’s protests.

Far-right demonstrations are due to take place at several locations across the north on Friday, including Belfast and Derry.

In view of possible traffic disruption, a spokesperson for Translink told The Irish News: “We liaise closely with the PSNI and will continue to follow their guidance - and any diversionary routes in place.

“Any changes to Translink services will be posted on our social media channels.”
