Tributes paid to man who died following Co Armagh crash

A man who died two vehicle collision in Co Armagh on Tuesday has been named as Sidney McIldoon.

Mr McIldoon, who would have turned 85 on Thursday, died following the crash involving a car and a tractor on the Cornascribe Road between Tandagree and Hamilstownbawn shortly after 2.30pm.

The Portadown man, who was in his eighties, was a former past grand lecturer of the Orange Order and was a former prison officer.



Mr McIldoon’s wife Irene remains in a serious condition in hospital and “our prayers are with her and the family circle at this time.”, the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland said.

“Sidney was a loyal and true friend and a great champion of the Orange cause,” wrote Orange Grand Master Edward Stevenson on the order’s Facebook page.

“He leaves a huge legacy, following a life of selfless service to the Orange Institution.”

Former Armagh mayor Jim Speers said: “Words cannot begin to describe the tragic news that has emerged.
