Two drug arrests in Co Down as £10,000 of suspected cocaine seized in Downpatrick

Police made separate arrests in Newcastle and Downpatrick following searches on Tuesday

SUSPECTED cocaine thought to be worth £10,000 was seized in Downpatrick on Tuesday, with a man in his 30s arrested.

Another man (22) was arrested in Newcastle on Tuesday after suspected cannabis was found in a property.

Both men have been released on bail.

Police said the Downpatrick arrest followed a search of a house by officers from Ardmore District Support Team, with assistance from the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

A second search at another property also recovered a quantity of drugs-related paraphernalia.

The man in Downpatrick was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class C controlled drugs as well as being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug.



In Newcastle, officers from the PSNI’s Tactical Support Group (TSG) and Detectives from Organised Crime Branch searched a property and recovered a quantity of suspected cannabis, suspected drugs paraphernalia and other items including cash and mobile phones.

A police spokesperson said: “A man aged in his 20s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, and possessing criminal property.

“He was subsequently released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.”

They continued: “Drugs have no place in our community, and I am making a direct appeal to anyone with information about the illicit supply, possession or misuse of drugs to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.”
