Two men arrested in Derry over ‘serious assault’ in Co Donegal

Two men were arrested in Derry on Tuesday in connection with the ‘serious assault’ of a man in his 20s in Co Donegal.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Special Crime Branch arrested the two men on suspicion of assault and are assisting An Garda Síochána in their investigation.

The two men remain in police custody.

Their arrests follow an incident which took place after 10am on Monday in the Coneyburrow Road area of Lifford.

Several masked men were reported to have entered the victim’s home armed with iron bars.

The man in his 20s was airlifted to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital following the incident, where he continues to receive treatment for serious injuries.

His father, who is in his 60s, was also present at the time of the assault and sustained less serious injuries.



He was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage from Coneyburrow Road, Lifford, between 10am and 11am on January 20 to contact Letterkenny Garda Station.
