Two police officers responding to a report of an emergency and a member of the public were injured following a collision in east Belfast.
A man in his 50s suffered serious leg injuries in the crash, while the officers were also taken to hospital for treatment but were not seriously hurt.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the collision, which happened shortly after 5.30am on Friday on the Albertbridge Road close to the junction with Templemore Street and Vicarage Street.
The road was closed from Templemore Avenue to Connswater Link but reopened shortly after noon.
“Shortly after 5.30am, a police patrol vehicle was responding to an emergency report towards Belfast City Centre when a collision occurred with another vehicle in the Templemore Street area,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and initial first aid was provided at the scene.
“Two officers were transported to hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the car, a man aged in his 50s, sustained serious leg injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment.”
Extensive damage was caused to both vehicles and cordons remained in place on the Albertbridge Road on Friday morning, with police advising motorists to take an alternative route.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or have dash cam footage to make contact.
