Translink says ‘help will be on hand’ to passengers visiting the new £340 million facility

Translink has released a guide for passengers to help them navigate the new Belfast Grand Central Station.

The company has also said “help will be on hand” to visitors as the new £340 million transport hub opens on Sunday.

Explaining where the entrances are located and how passengers can buy tickets, the online guide has been issued as final touches are currently being put in place at the new site.

Bus services that normally operate from the nearby Europa Bus Centre will relocate to Grand Central Station.

The final bus will leave the Europa Bus Centre late on Saturday night, which will then close its doors with the first service set to depart from the new site to travel to Dublin at 5am on Sunday.

No date has been set for the commencement of rail services at the new transport hub.

Translink has said assistance will be available on Sunday and into next week to “help bus passengers navigate through what will eventually become the largest integrated transport hub on the island of Ireland”.

Passengers can enter the new station from the Grosvenor Road or an entrance on Durham Street, which is located close to Glengall Street, where the existing Europa Bus station is situated.

The virtual guide has been released by Translink to help passengers navigate their way to the station and around it on their first visit.

“Belfast Grand Central Station is the largest integrated transport facility in Ireland, providing enhanced local and international connectivity with bus, coach and rail links all under one roof,” it states.

“Inclusive for all, it will offer an enhanced passenger experience for around 20 million bus and railway journeys each year.



“You can access the station via the main Durham Street entrance that will bring you directly into the main concourse area.

“Or you can use the doors at the side of the station on Grosvenor Road.

“On entering keep walking straight ahead until you arrive at the main concourse, which offers spacious, comfortable and accessible modern facilities, all designed with your convenience in mind.

“If you need assistance, our friendly staff at the central information desk can help.

“The quickest way to travel is to pre-purchase your ticket on out mLink mobile ticketing app or have your Translink smartcard topped up with travel.

“You can also get your ticket from one of the new easy to use ticket vending machines where staff are on hand to help.

“Ticket in hand, simply check the passenger information screens for departure information. You can then make your way to the bus stand. You can choose to wait here and when the bus is ready to board, the doors will automatically open.

“Or if you’ve time to spare, you can enjoy the facilities on offer.”

Translink chief executive Chris Conway has said he hopes there will be announcement “soon” about when train services will begin.

It has been reported that the delay is due to an issue with the tracks at the new station.

He told The Irish News that a date has still not been finalised.

“We’re working very closely with the safety authority obviously safety is our number one priority and we hope to be able to announce a date for that soon,” he said.
