HUNDREDS of people in the Hannahstown area of west Belfast showed their support for families affected by suicide with the annual Darkness into Light walk.
Those taking part began the 5km walk at 4.15am in the morning, providing a metaphor for hope with the community supporting each other from darkness as the sun rose during the walk.
Rescue organisations were also present during the event to ensure the safety of all of those taking part, while over £5,000 was raised for mental health charities.

Posting photos on the club page afterwards, Lámh Dhearg CLG commented: “A truly uplifting and well organised walk.
“Well done all concerned in organising and ensuring it went off smoothly. Very positive feedback from all and an unreal atmosphere.”
The Darkness into Light campaign first started at Phoenix Park in Dublin in 2009, raising money for the mental health charity Pieta.
The movement has continued to grow since then, with 150,000 participants now taking part each year.
As well as raising awareness, it offers a chance for people to connect with their local community and to offer hope for people impacted by suicide.
