Woman (84) dies following crash involving bus in Co Derry

Collision happened in Ballykelly area on Thursday afternoon

An 84-year-old woman has died following a crash involving a car and a bus in Co Derry.

The collision happened the Clooney Road close to Ballykelly, between Derry and Limavady on Thursday afternoon, and the woman has been named by police as Joyce Taggart, from the Ballykelly area.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit said police received a report of the crash shortly after 2.15pm.

“Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from other emergency services, but sadly Mrs Taggart, who was the driver of the car died at the scene.”

She added: ”We are investigating the circumstances of the collision, and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or to anyone with dash-cam or other footage that could assist with our enquiries to contact police on 101 quoting reference 930 26/09/24.



The Clooney Road remained closed to motorists on Thursday evening.

Causeway Coast and Glens Sinn Féin councillor Dermott Nicholl, who represents the Benbradagh area, said: “It is heartbreaking to learn of yet another death on our roads, and my thoughts, and those of the wider community, are with the victim’s family as they come to terms with this tragedy.”
