Woman dies after single-vehicle crash in Co Down

Police confirmed the elderly driver died at the scene in Ballyroney, near Rathfriland on Sunday afternoon

An 85-year-old woman has died at the scene of a crash in Co Down on Sunday afternoon, police have confirmed.

Inspector Cherith Adair said the woman had been driving a grey Nissan Qashqai on the Tierkelly Hill Road, in Ballyroney near Rathfriland, with police alerted to the crash around 3.20pm.

“Officers attended the scene with our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance. Sadly, the woman passed away at the scene,” she said.



“An investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision is now underway, and we are appealing to anyone who may have any information which may assist, or who was travelling in the area at the time and captured dash-cam or mobile phone footage, to get in touch on 101, quoting reference number 970 of July 21.”
