A woman has been extradited from the Republic to the north in relation to the theft of a purse belonging to a woman in her 80s.

The 38-year-old woman was found guilty and sentenced in 2016 over the theft, which occurred in a Belfast shop.

However, she was released on bail and failed to reappear before Belfast Crown Court.

The woman was arrested in the Republic in May of this year, and following extradition was due to appear before Antrim Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A PSNI spokesperson said the extradition was a “further example of the Police Service of Northern Ireland working closely with An Garda Síochána to track down wanted persons and bring offenders to justice”.
