EIGHT people have been arrested following a weekend of violent attacks in north, west and east Belfast.

Four men were arrested in the north of the city early on Sunday after a car was damaged by a petrol bomb on Ballysillan Avenue and a 29-year-old man was stabbed outside a house on Silverstream Road a short time later.

Three men also forced their way into a house on Ballysillan Avenue and assaulted a 19-year-old man and 21-year-old woman.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary at the scene. Two other men, aged 32 and 34, were also detained.

Four men, aged 33, 48 and two aged 39, were arrested on Saturday after a 20-year-old man was shot in both legs in Westrock Park in west Belfast the day before.

He remains in hospital with "potentially life changing injuries".

The Clonfaddan Crescent, Iris Street, Albert Street and Whiterock Crescent areas were searched on Saturday and items including electronic devices were seized.

The 48-year-old was released unconditionally but was arrested again yesterday afternoon after cocaine worth £15,000 was found in Clonfaddan Crescent.

In east Belfast, an 18-year-old man was treated in hospital for stab wounds to his neck, chest and arm after a large crowd, including a man with a knife, gathered in Templemore Avenue early yesterday.

A second man, also aged 18, sustained cuts to his arm and shoulder and scratches to his ear after he was assaulted by three men.

Meanwhile, several shots were fired at a house in Loughview Gardens, Coalisland, Co Tyrone, at around 2am yesterday.

No one was injured.

Police said children were in the house at the time and officers are treating the shooting as attempted murder.
