A 15-YEAR-OLD boy was arrested today by police investigating a crime spree in Belfast involving a car theft and a restaurant being set alight.

The first incident was reported shortly after midnight when a male made off with a car parked in the Camden Street area while the driver was at an ATM machine.

The vehicle went towards the Botanic area and was later left at Agincourt Avenue at the junction with Ormeau Avenue.

At around half past midnight, police received a report that a restaurant on Dublin Road had been ransacked with items including money stolen.

The property had also been set alight inside. Fire crews attended and extinguished the fire.

Damage was caused to the front door, as well as smoke damage inside.

No-one was in the property during the incident, which is being treated as deliberate.

Police are also investigating an attempted burglary at a fast-food outlet in the Dublin Road area around the same time.

A 15-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of offences including aggravated vehicle taking causing injury, possession of a Class C drug and three counts of handling stolen goods.

He yesterday remained in police custody.

Police appealed to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to phone officers on 101, quoting reference number 4 10/04/20, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
