A 1970s song by the late Irish entertainer Joe Dolan makes a surprise appearance in the new Disney film Cruella.
Director Craig Gillespie said he toyed with more than one thousand possible songs to use in the prequel to 101 Dalmatians, of which the Mullingar musician's hit Good Looking Woman was one of the final selections.
The film stars Emma Stone as the notorious Cruella de Vil and Gillespie says the song was among those which helped "elevate a scene and surprise".
The song is played just as the Baroness - played by Emma Thompson - prepares for a big fashion show.
"I think it's impossible to figure out what I'm thinking about with music," the director told entertainment.ie.
"My editor, we're very in tuned when we're working together. I often put together a collection of songs before I start, I've got like 1,400 songs on my Cruella playlist and when I'm on the set, I edit as I shoot, so I'll sometimes throw music on it to try things."
He told the outlet he chose songs with "complex melodies" that would "elevate" scenes involving the Baroness.
"There's something about those '70s melodies that's foreboding, but also optimistic? Those melodies tend to be more complex than what's going on in the `80s, and I gravitate to that more.
"But, you know, we go for these stately songs with her; some of the lyrics have a wit to them juxtaposed to what's going on. I'm always looking for something that will elevate a scene and surprise you as opposed to what you'd expect."
Good Looking Woman peaked at Number 4 in the Irish charts and hit Number 13 in the UK in 1972 for 13 weeks.
Ben Dolan, who played with his brother on the track, told the Sunday World its inclusion had come as a "great surprise" as the family had not been given advance warning.
