A Co Armagh soldier who died after falling from a cliff in Co Donegal "consistently strived to go the extra mile", his commanding officer said.
Stuart Hamilton, a procurement officer at Dunbia Foods, died in Bundoran early on Saturday.
Mr Hamilton, who was also a corporal with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment and had served in Afghanistan, is understood to have lost his footing and fallen to his death.
He was taken to Sligo University Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
In his early thirties and from the Tandragee area, Mr Hamilton was a sports lover who enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking and kite-surfing.
The Royal Irish Regiment said it was providing support to Mr Hamilton's family.
His commanding officer Lt Col Simon Baxter said: "Cpl Stuart Hamilton or Hammy as he was known, was a truly outstanding soldier and commander".
"Always going a little further, he consistently strived to go the extra mile," he said.
"He was the best of his peer group and tested himself constantly.
"He was larger than life and a true battalion character, admired and respected by everyone he met.
"We will miss him dearly and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."
Ulster Unionist Alderman Jim Speers said Mr Hamilton was" an extremely popular young man from a very well-known and highly regarded local family and his passing has been felt right across the district and far beyond".
He added: "During his military career he had served in Afghanistan and his commanding officer has paid fulsome tribute to him, describing him as 'a truly outstanding soldier'.
"I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Stuart’s parents Alan and Alison, the rest of the family circle and his many friends."
