THE preferred route for the £55 million A29 Cookstown Bypass will be displayed at public information events in Co Tyrone next week.

An exhibition will be held in the Burnavon Arts and Cultural Centre in Cookstown on Tuesday December 7 and Wednesday December 8 between 11am and 9pm.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said the new road would also include a foot and cycle path.

"The proposed route which is approximately 4km has been designed as a wide single carriageway, with overtaking opportunities in both directions," she said.

The project also includes plans to upgrade the Sandholes Link Road.

An environmental impact assessment report is expected to be published next year.

Ms Mallon said the scheme aims to reduce traffic in Cookstown town centre.

Due to Covid restrictions anyone wishing to attend the exhibition must book a time slot on 028 867 69949.

The scheme exhibition and brochure can also be viewed online from December 7 via www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/articles/a29-cookstown-bypass-overview.
