THE body of a man has been found at a house in Ballycastle.

The discovery was made in the Mayo Drive area of the town on Sunday evening.

Last night police and forensics officers worked at the property, which is in what a local councillor has described as a "quiet area" of the Co Antrim coastal town.

It is understood the deceased was not originally from the Ballycastle area.

Sinn Féin councillor for the Glens area, Cara McShane, told the Irish News: "This is devastating news for a family to receive, and at the worst possible time of year to hear it.

"This is also a quiet area of Ballycastle, and there is a sense of shock and sadness there as people come to terms with the sad loss of another life. But the community will be there to offer support and all of our thoughts and prayers go out to the family who are tonight dealing with this terrible news."
