THE funeral is due to take place in west Belfast today of a toddler who died in a swimming pool tragedy in Spain.
Freddie Briggs-Mohan, who was 19 months old, was pulled from the water of a private pool in Aigues, near Benidorm.
According to media reports an air ambulance and a basic life support ambulance were tasked to the scene of the accident on May 25.
"A neighbour performed resuscitation techniques until the medical response teams arrived," a spokesperson for the regional emergency response coordination centre said.
"Once they were there, the medical responders continued with advanced CPR and other resuscitation techniques, but they were unable to save the child, a 19-month-old toddler who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aigues Town Hall said the toddler's death had "saddened and moved locals living in Aigues". It observed three days of mourning "as a show of our pain and solidarity with the child's parents and other relatives".
Requiem Mass for the toddler will be held at St Agnes' Church in west Belfast where his mother Jane Mohan is understood to be from.
It is believed his father Marc Briggs is originally from England, where a memorial service is expected to take place in Mansfield at a later date.
A fundraising page has been set up by a family friend, who said "Briggsy and Jane are very touched by all your messages of support".
He said the page was "in memory of Freddie" and also to help the couple "with any costs at this horrific time".
