A woman dressed all in white, with her head covered, caused a stir on Tuesday morning as she stood on an east Belfast bridge, over a busy thoroughfare, waving an Israeli flag and another featuring a black cross.

The woman, believed to be the street preacher Anna Christian, remained in a precarious position on the bridge for several hours as she waved the two flags.

Ms Christian styles herself on social media as a reverend, sister and lady, while also describing herself as a "prophetic preacher, teacher, pastor living in continuous worship, prayer and adoration of The Lord Jesus Christ".

She is well known by many around Belfast for her activities, including her city centre preaching and can often be seen in the city centre dancing to religious songs.

In April last year she caused a commotion outside the GPO in Dublin as she danced frantically to religious music.

Ms Christian is believed to be originally from Dublin but living now in west Belfast. Ms Christian has a social media presence on many platforms and revealed she changed her name by deed poll earlier this year from Rachel Mulcahy.

In recent weeks, she has posted items in support of Israel, including a link to a petition "demanding the Chair of the National Police Chiefs' Council, Chief Constable Gavin Stephens, Chair of the College of Policing, Lord Herbert, and the Chief Executive of the Crown Prosecution Service, Rebecca Lawrence, show zero tolerance toward those celebrating Hamas’ acts of terrorism".

The petition claims: "Unnerving marches across the UK, in Belfast, Brighton, Manchester, London, and more have seen tens of thousands of people celebrate the mass murder, rape, and kidnapping of innocent people in Israel."
