The caution comes into force at 5pm on Wednesday evening and remains until 10am on Thursday morning, spanning the high traffic commuting times both after work and before.
Portions of untreated roads are expected to develop slippery patches, with the announcement covering Antrim, Armagh, Down, Londonderry, and Tyrone counties.
It comes after a yellow weather warning that was issued across Antrim, Derry, and Tyrone due to icy patches on Wednesday morning.
Incidents of road traffic collisions were reported in the city of Belfast, on the Nelson Street exit road, and on the primary motorway passing through Moira.
