Police have said the sudden death of a man in Co Tyrone is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the Mary Street area of Castlewellan on Thursday afternoon.

Forensic experts were spotted alongside PSNI officers at the scene throughout the day, before it was later confirmed the body of a man had been found.

A PSNI spokesperson said they attended the scene of a sudden death of a man at around 1.15pm.



“A post-mortem will take place in due course. However, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time,” they added.

Castlewellan-based Newry, Mourne and Down Sinn Féin councillor Róisín Howell said: “It’s a very sad situation, and I would like to pass on my condolences to the family of the deceased.”
